The exquisitely detailed ‘Bletchley Park Golden Egg’ is inspired by Winston Churchill’s famous description of the codebreakers as ‘The geese that laid the golden eggs, but never cackled’. Open the Egg, and in the tradition of the Fabergé family, the surprise: two skilfully crafted golden geese with sparkling sapphire eyes, each guarding a golden Egg; the models all sculpted in sterling silver with 24-carat gold.
Skilfully combining differing materials and crafting techniques, ‘Bletchley Park’s Golden Egg’ is similar in size and presentation to the Enigma Egg, and also limited to fifty Eggs only. With its golden name, Sarah Fabergé relied exclusively on precious metal for her newest creation. The 24-carat gold and sterling silver Egg is hand engine-turned using the skill so closely associated with Carl Fabergé. To the front is overlaid the Bletchley Park World War 2 medallion. The girdle of the Egg lends a new interpretation to the ‘swags’ which collectors will have observed in the Fabergés’ work. A sparkling diamond offsets the finial once again modelled, in a thoughtful pairing with Sarah’s Enigma Egg, after the rose ceiling decoration at Bletchley.
