Date Posted:29/04/2019

MK Lightning new signingsThe Smith Recycling Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to announce the signing of two well known and vastly experienced players for the 2019-20 season.

Cowley commits to Lightning

MK Lightning are thrilled to announce that former GB star Russell Cowley is the latest player to sign up for the 2019-20 season.  Russell - a legend in the British game - brings a vast amount of experience to Milton Keynes having iced in over 800 competitive Elite League fixtures.

Russ’s career with Great Britain is equally as stellar, totalling 66 appearances yielding one bronze medal, three silvers and the coveted gold medal from the 2016-17 World Championships held in Belfast.

Following a successful campaign in NIHL1 with the Basingstoke Bison last year including being named in the league All-Star team, he has committed to the MK Lightning for the 2019-20 season.

Fan Favourite Leigh Jamieson returns to Lightning

Lightning are also delighted to announce the return of a player who understands the expectations of the club’s fanbase more than most: Leigh Jamieson.

A versatile two-way player, Leigh is as effective a defenceman as he is in attack and will bring the experience of two decades in the game back to Milton Keynes.

As well as Elite League experience with the Belfast Giants, Leigh’s international career saw him playing for the GB senior team and contesting three World Championships in four years.

2008 saw a move back to the mainland with reigning EIHL champions Coventry Blaze, under Paul Thompson. Leigh returned to his hometown club Milton Keynes Lightning and during the first of eight consecutive seasons, the team took the English Premier League title and his final season saw Lightning scoop both the EPL Cup and Playoff titles.

Since then Leigh has played a season each at Peterborough Phantoms and Streatham, and now returns to the Lightning for a third stint - keen to use his experience to lift the club to more success.

The club is delighted to announce these two marquee signings to their fans and we look forward to seeing them icing in Lightning colours from September.
