Did we catch you out with our April Fool's story?? We're delighted to say that Milton Keynes Theatre is staying RIGHT where it is at the heart of the MK Cultural scene. As for the dodgy sounding estate agent, Richard Roma? He's the lead in Glengarry Glen Ross, played by the excellent Nigel Harman. The play comes to Milton Keynes Theatre today and runs through 'til Saturday 6th April. Happy April Fools Day!!
Did you miss it? Here's the story that got theatregoers worried this morning!!
As the pockets of the theatre-going public are squeezed further by political instability, the controversial decision has been taken by the venue’s owners to sell Milton Keynes Theatre, throwing the cultural future of the venue into uncertainty. The following has been extracted from the website of US Property Management Company, Glen Garry Estate Agents, who have been instructed in the sale.
* CHARACTER BUILDING * POTENTIAL FOR FIVE HUNDRED BEDROOMS * FOUR AND A HALF FLOORS * ENVIABLE (JUST OFF) TOWN CENTRE LOCATION * SWEEPING PAVED APPROACH * UNPARALLELED VIEW OF NEW CAR PARK
Want to add to your property portfolio? Hate to miss out on a bargain? Then Glengarry Estate Agents (Letting and Property Management Inc.) are delighted to offer you a rare and remarkable investment opportunity. Milton Keynes Theatre (eight million square foot of the finest shag-pile, three shower rooms, four kitchens and no bedrooms) has been an entertainment centre of excellence for the last 20 years.
The principal living accommodation is set out over three floors incorporating spacious reception rooms, massive seating area, built-in bar (for those sociable nights in!) and miles of corridors – all of which are accessed off an impressive staircase. While bathroom accommodation is limited in scope there are almost one hundred flushing w.cs and a separate laundry room.
Attic space is considerable and there is also a sizeable cellar which could be refurbished to include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, games room, cinema and garaging.
Milton Keynes Theatre is approached (on foot) beneath its own contemporary neon-lit archway. While formal gardens do not, at present, exist, spades and forks can be provided by the current owners and will not incur extra expense.
Richard Roma from the company said: “We’re so into theatre, it’s so cool and so saleable right now. We’ve got a Broadway full of great theatres, but nothing like the Milton Keynes Theatre – it’s a magnificent theatre and I will sell it, hey, it’s what I do!” Upon being probed into the likely use of the venue by future owners, Roma refused to comment further but the words ‘clown rodeo’ were featured heavily as he cut our interview short to speak to a potential buyer. We’ll be bringing you an exclusive video interview with Richard Roma later today – follow @MKTheatre on Twitter for all the updates.
Open house viewings: 1st April, 7.30pm
